Hundreds of TMC workers join BJP ahead of Panchayat Elections

As the panchayat elections in West Bengal draw closer, the state is witnessing a series of defections. While the State Congress president is trying to woo those who left the Trinamool Congress, the process of joining the BJP has once again started.

On Thursday, more than 500 Trinamool Congress workers, including Deputy Chief Nazima Bibi, Panchayat members Praveer Roy, Vinod Chandra Roy and Panchayat Samiti member Biren Burman of Gosanimari 1 Zone in Cooch Behar district, joined the BJP. They were handed over the BJP flag in the presence of BJP MP and Minister of State for Home Shri Nishith Pramanik, Cooch Behar District BJP President MLA Sukumar Rai, and other leaders.

This comes as a major blow to the Trinamool Congress as they gear up for the upcoming panchayat elections. The defection of the Deputy Chief and several other party members highlights the cracks in the Trinamool Congress and its inability to retain its members. On the other hand, the BJP's ability to attract party members from other parties showcases its growing influence in the state.
